”Impossible Dance (i)” (titled after Fiona Buckland’s 2002 queer world-building and dance-floor analysis essay) is a collection of black and white 6x4” photographic prints taken over the last decade from my photographic practice. These images were captured from within events, parties and clubs in which I authentically belong to, but can be perceived from the outside as counter and sub-culture spheres (such as queer clubs, gay parties, punk and underground events) from mostly Naarm (Melbourne) but also Djubuguli (Sydney.)
My arts practice concerns itself with GASD and LGBTQI+ identities, interrogating systems of power and oscillates between performance and photography-based. My photographic practice positions itself inside the photographic documenter, with heavy influences from Rennie Ellis, Susan Sontag, Nan Goldin, William Yang and Joan E. Biren and aims to authentically document, archive and celebrate communities and experiences from the fringes of main-stream culture.
