Darkling
“Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain”
Excerpt from “Dover Beach” by Matthew Arnold
A one-off, 2 hour looped performance art project.
“Darkling” existed to explore personally, and publicly, an androgynous, suburban, middle-class life in the modern age. What does it mean to be human? Why must we conform to sexual roles in society? And what are we as consumers and products ourselves?
