What is the power of the artist? Benevolent and malignant creatures guard the border between realms; they are the boundary between the sacer; the unknown, the night, the sacred and the profanus; the known, the everyday, and the pattern of expectations. What is the power of the artist? Can the artist become the sacerdos, the one to guide the rest of us, the profanus, beyond the edge of the community, beyond the daytime and the everyday, beyond night, sleep, dreams, beyond reason and awareness, the irrational and subconscious, beyond the fathomable, before birth and after death? What is the power of the artist? Exhibited at Obscura Gallery St. Kilda 2011.
