YOUTH

YOUTH  “…… do you know, do you know  where you come from?... You come from so many places, from the water and the earth, from the fire and the snow, from so far away you journey...” (Pablo Neruda) Off the Kerb is proud to reach its milestone of 10 years in the arts in Victoria by hosting this large scale charitable group exhibition entitled ‘Youth’.  The youth of today represents a vital aspect of our society. The youth ofa community is a reflection on the community as a whole. Youth is a time when one begins to shape one’s sense of identity in preparation for adulthood.  Youth epitomises a critical time of growth and development and change. Our youth responds to, and in turn have a significant effect on traditions, customs, social constructs and our culture.  They draw from their heritage and ancestry to form new journeys ahead. Youth implies innocence, freedom and naivety. OTK celebrates its 10th birthday with this group exhibition in support of Red Dust www.reddust.org.au by donating the entirety of the gallery commission.  Generations of Indigenous Australians in remote communities have lived a life impacted by poor health. This affects the whole community, especially young people. Red Dust believes that good health is the key to a bright future and that health outcomes can only be made possible through a two-way exchange with communities. We are proud to be featuring in this show Matt Adnate who’s roots stemmed from graffiti art to become this country’s most prominent large-scale portrait artists.
