​Hi! Greetings, and welcome to +melbourne art review! I’m Matto Lucas, a Melbourne based visual artist and the creator of the +melbourne art review. I have created this space to interview emerging and establishing artists, review exhibitions and shows, discuss artwork and creative practices and open up discussions about art and the people that make art. I have a lot of big things planned for the site and hopefully, with your help and interest, it can become a source to help promote and give exposure to great spaces and galleries as well as help support emerging practices and artists. I would also love this space to be able to open up the idea of the artist and artists practices to the public to give everyone a better understanding of how we work as artists, why we do what we do and what we are trying to talk about within our work. I’m going to be posting interviews with different people in the creative field, artists, curators, gallery owners, etc as well as posting news about upcoming exhibitions, and reviews of exhibitions as well. I’m going to be talking about art in an accessible and open manner, aiming to engage readers with images - photos of exhibitions taken by me as well as submitted images by artists and galleries (see contact tab for submissions - matto@mattolucas.com) as well as posting reviews from readers and news by you - the art community, from not just Melbourne, but nationally and internationally! (Stay tuned, get involved etc) My goal for this blog is to be supportive and positive, yes, art is subjective and just like music, or food, some work is not to everyone’s tastes, but I aim to review, discuss, expose a wide, wide variety of artists, artwork and creatives through the +melbourne art review, and openly and honestly explore what their work means and represents. I’m excited to launch this platform, and with your support we can start discussing and opening up our various art practices.
