A year of +mar
1 February 2015 Comment
It's been about a year since we launched +melbourne art review.
Within that year we have been to multiple openings and interviewed many different Melbourne artists and creatives.
We documented the re-opening of Off The Kerb Gallery after the wall fell in.
We were resident photographer for fortyfivedownstairs for half of 2014 and loved being exposed to a whole different circle of artists.
We helped promote, for free, emerging artists, ARI's and spaces that run on a shoestring budget, generosity and passion.
+mar was started to publicize these spaces and shows that might not get the attention that they deserve. It's hard being an emerging artist, it's difficult being an artist or creative and we have such a passion and love for this amazing, vibrant and enthusiastic scene that we want to support, document, publicize and show how great it is.
Over this year we have had a few guest writers and photographers, but mostly +mar is run by a skeleton team.
This project has been really difficult, but ultimately rewarding.
Currently there is no financial gain from +mar, and it takes time, commitment and passion to keep it going.
We attend openings, shoot social and documentation photography, edit at a professional standard and upload to the site. We don't ask for money.
We just ask for support.
